TRAFFIC SAFETY & ITS SOLUTIONS

How many cameras does my safety study require?

For any deployment, the number of cameras required will vary and is dependant on a few important criteria, mainly:
  • Intersection geometry (ex. roundabout or midblock crossing)
  • Areas of study interest/priority movements to be analyzed (ex. right turning vehicles vs. cyclists
at southwest crosswalk or through vehicles vs. merging vehicles at northeast slip Lane)
  • Public and/or private Infrastructure available to affix temporary camera(s)
Below are the most common examples of camera setups based on our hundreds of global deployments. Our Project Delivery team will work with you to determine the most effective setup, ensuring we capture the road user movements you are interested in analyzing.  Note that the below diagrams assume that poles are located at those exact locations to affix the cameras, a standard Lane width of 3.7 m / 12 ft, and that our standard camera installation & video collection guidelines are followed.
