Transoft Solutions, the City of Bellevue, Washington and the Together for Safer Roads coalition have partnered on a first-of-its kind, citywide analysis of traffic camera video with the goal of improving safety for all road users. Data collected from over 5,000 hours of video footage were used to produce three reports: 1) Video-based Network-wide Conflict Analysis 2) Video-based Network-wide Speed and Speeding Analysis and 3) Video-based Conflict, Speeding, and Crash Correlation together with an Executive Summary.
EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Video-based Network-wide Conflict and Speed Analysis to Support Vision Zero in Bellevue (WA) United States
Nora Hallett, Transportation Engineer at the City of Toronto provides a snapshot of recent projects in Toronto and how road design and technology are playing a part in the City’s Vision Zero program and making the roadways safer for all users.
David Wasserman, Data Science Practice Leader at Alta Planning + Design explains how the rapid evolution of multiple technologies such as computer vision, internet of things, digital twins, and advanced computing are shifting expectations of professionals working in transportation planning and design.
The Regional Municipality of Durham in Ontario, Canada partnered with Transoft Solutions and True North Safety Group (TNS) to undertake an In-Service Road Safety Review at a total of six high-volume suburban intersections across the Region.
Transportation engineers, Paul St-Aubin and Anoosh Hafezi explain how Transoft’s TORUS and TrafxSAFE Plus (previously BriskLUMINA) solutions help practitioners diagnose safety issues at existing sites, build and then re-evaluate roundabout design using actual observed road user interactions, so that roundabouts can be designed with safety performance in mind.
Learn why transportation consultants, Fehr & Peers used new video-based surrogate safety techniques to augment traditional pedestrian safety evaluations at two large multi-modal intersections in California.
Predictive vs. traditional (reactive) road safety approaches are presented by Dr. Luis Miranda during the Transportation Innovation Talks panel at the OECD International Transpiration Forum in Leipzig, Germany.
Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) adopted TrafxSAFE Plus to produce vision-based conflicts and speed data for a unique before-after study in the Latin American context.
